Elizabethan Middle Class Chemise
The front placket or opening on this chemise is made of cutwork lace. It is the same lace as on the ruff and sleeve cuffs. In the 1500's the cutwork would have been done on the fabric of the chemise and not sewn on to it. The ties which serve as closures for the placket are tied in the manor of the 1500's where there are two tails and one loop. The ties have small silver aglets at their ends.
