Photo 15. Detail photo of a section of a linen-cotton skirt that has top stitching between the rows of color bands. Many modern sewing machines have a stitch called a "Quilting" or "Saddle" stitch. This stitch when worked with clear nylon thread on the top and color thread in the bobbin created a hand stitched look. I used a contrasting heavy polyester thread in the bobbin and loosen the bobbin tension. It does take time to master this stitch but it is very much faster than sewing by hand and I think it adds a nice touch to this Middle Class skirt.
